德国柏林自由大学是德国知名的研究型大学，跻身于德国7所顶尖研究型大学之列，也是德国政府通过精英计划推选出来的十一所“精英大学”之一。根据国家留学基金管理委员会与该校签署的合作协议，国家留学基金每年资助不超过50名学生赴该校攻读博士学位或进行博士联合培养。
